Summer Fun

In July and August we enjoyed a fine evening at Gawsworth open air theatre, participated in Poynton Community Challenge (anyone try our Pig Racing?), sang along to Mamma Mia and took a rather damp evening stroll with Ed the Ranger to see bats and glow worms on Middlewood Way, drying out in the Boars Head with a meal. We also helped planting out and leafleting at the Ladies Circle Garden at Tatton Flower Show. Several members also helped out at Poynton Show.

In June we enjoyed a fun evening of croquet & Pimms and cycled up the Middlewood Way returning for pub grub at the Boars Head. We also took part in the Redesmere Sailing Club annual raft race and BBQ on a sunny Saturday afternoon, joined by partners and families.

Manchester Great Run

Congratulations once again to Angela, Carol and Lesley who completed the Manchester 10k for the second year.

Bowling and BBQ time!

In May we are planning to go bowling and in June meet for the first BBQ of the year. We get together on Wednesday evenings every other week for local social activities - see our programme of events.

Weekend in the Lake District and ladies who lunch!

In April we enjoyed a weekend in the Lake District walking, rowing on Derwentwater and sampling the hospitality of the local pub. Whilst Poynton basked in spring sunshine we got soaked - but it didn't dampen our spirits.

Several members also attended the Regional Luncheon in Warrington – an excuse to dress up and enjoy a pleasant meal.

Chocolate, Comedy and Scalextric Racing!

In March we tried our hand at Easter egg making and enjoyed an evening of comedy at the Frog and Bucket in Manchester. We also put women drivers on the map at an evening of Scalextric racing with Round Table at the Goyt Mill in Marple.

Wine Tasting and Ice Skating!

We enjoyed a wine tasting evening (well we think we did) sampling a range of fine wines. Thank you to our hosts Marion and Nigel. We also took to the ice at Altrincham Ice Rink. It will be a while before we are appearing on TV!

Charity Pub Quiz Nights

We entered several teams in two charity quiz nights at the Ring O'Bells pub in Marple. The proceeds from the evening will be donated to a Lymphoma Charity based at The Christie Hospital.

Post Christmas Meal at Ciao

During January we enjoyed a meal out at Ciao catching up on all the Christmas gossip and eating just a little bit more good food!

Christmas Parties

We joined Round Table for a joint Christmas Party at the Acton Court Hotel in Stockport.  We had a great night, enjoying the meal and disco until the early hours of the morning.  Our families didn't miss out either.  The children had fun at their swim party at Hyde Leisure Pool where they were visited by and received presents from Santa himself.

Santa Float Night

In December we also helped Round Table with house to house collections, accompanying Santa and his float around Poynton.  Afterwards we met up for mince pices and more mulled wine and received Secret Santa presents.

Manchester Christmas Markets

We met in Manchester and visited the very festive Christmas Markets.  We sampled various foods, helped down with the compulsory mulled wine.  It was a really good start to the Christmas period.

 Jewellery Making

In November we enjoyed an evening making jewellery with the help of Judith.  Watch out for the masterpieces being modelled over the next few months.

Table Tennis

We enjoyed a 'knock about' Table Tennis evening in November.  No one was feeling very competitive and it's hard to concentrate when you are chatting!

Fizz Fashion Show

We held our annual Fizz Fashion Show on Wednesday 24 October 2007 at Poynton Sports Club. We raised a whopping £500 for the "Friendship Group" a club for children with Downs Syndrome and their families.  Thank you to everyone who attended.

Barcelona

Our weekend away this year was to Barcelona.  We had a lovely few days in the Spanish sunshine enjoying the culture, cuisine and sampling the local wine.

Ghost Walk

We were spooked by some interesting ghost stories on our trip round the pubs of Stockport in October.  It has to be said we are not the bravest bunch around!

Badminton!

An evening of badminton was enjoyed at Hazel Grove High School. Where else could you get a good workout and  have a  laugh — usually at each others  expense!

An Evening of Abba at a Gawsworth

Quite a crowd attended the Abba tribute night at Gawsworth open air theatre. Before the performance we shared a picnic and bubbly in a lake-side gazebo, where we continued after the show (until we were reminded to pack up and go home). The show was great fun - it's amazing how many words we knew!

Curry Night

With a few members away on holiday a handful of girls visited the Ruby Tandori in Poynton for a curry. We were joined by Michelle from area and a couple of new guests.

  Summer BBQ

Despite a little shower Karl (our chef!)  cooked up a great feast at our Summer BBQ. We enjoyed a lovely evening catching up with old friends and meeting some new faces.

Cycle Ride

Julie, Michelle, Angela and Lesley braved the elements to cycle along the Middlewood Way. A bit muddy and wet they arrived at Lyme Breeze for a satisfying supper with 6 other members who had sensibly ditched the bikes for a car!

 Family Rounder’s Match and BBQ

The weather held off sufficiently for our family rounder’s match with Round Table to go ahead. Everyone joined in irrespective of age and congratulations go the Red team who won (just). We followed on with a family BBQ which ran on into the wee small hours, dodging the odd shower under the comfort of our Gazebo’s.

Race for Life

Five members also supported the Race For Life as stewards at the Tatton Park event.

Clay Pigeon Shooting

We managed to avoid the rain to enjoy an interesting evening Clay Pigeon shooting in Glossop.  We demonstrated a huge range of abilities and varying degrees of enthusiasm! The evening was rounded off at the Grouse Inn discussing our ‘hits and misses’. A great night, doing something quite different.

Great Manchester 10K Run

Lesley, Angela and Carol successfully completed the BUPA Great Manchester Run on 20 May. A whopping £700 has been raised for Cancer Research UK. Thanks for all those who sponsored us and supported us through our training and on the day.

Cinema Night – Hairspray

I don't think we quite knew what to expect, but the cinema evening turned out to be a great success.  The film was hit with all the girls - it made you want to sing along.  Luckily for other people we resisted the urge!
